Short-Sleeve Empire Waist

Off the needles: Over the spring I finished a short-sleeved top for myself and I am pleased with how it turned out. This sweater has a little empire waist and a ruffled neck line knit in stockinette stitch. Of all the sweaters I have made for myself, they have all been bulky and long sleeved, as well as knit in multiple pieces, so this was a whole new adventure for me.  The pattern was knit from the top down in the round, which made it incredibly simple and a very fast knit. The pattern is from a book I got for my birthday with many top-down knitting patterns. It is called "Custom Knits" by Wendy Bernard. There are so many cute patterns in it, I can't wait to make more cute, stylish, easy sweaters from this book for myself. The yarn is a hand dyed 100% organic cotton from Tahki Yarns and I used size 6 circular needles (a set of Knit Picks harmony wood needs which by the way are amazing to knit with). Although the needle size was very small from what I am used it, it stil

My Life in a Nutshell

Again, another long break from the knitting journal and much has changed for me. First off, I am officially a graduate student at Xavier full time now and I am taking 4 classes. Sounds like a lot but two of them are math classes and two are education classes and they all will be very manageable. I love them all so far so it should be a great semester. Secondly, I have a part time job working at Urban Active in Kenwood where I open the gym a few days a week and work behind the front desk as a customer service rep. Now, if you know me well, you know I am NOT a morning person and I get up at 4 am to open the gym. I know I'm crazy for doing it, but I actually have grown to enjoy it. I have the responsibility of keeping the gym under control all morning (the GM doesn't get there until 9 am). And I just enjoy helping people out especially in the environment of personal fitness. I feel like a little logic processing machine as people walk in to the gym asking about their membershi

I haven't posted anything in quite some time, but that does not mean I haven't been knitting. Quite the opposite actually, I've been knitting more now which has taken away my time to type updates. So here is a quick catch-up to where I am right now. Several months ago, I had decided I wanted to be a more selfless knitter, and I became very ambitious for Christmas. I did manage to finish the green cable zurich scarf for my friend and made matching fingerless mittens. Unfortunately I did not get a finished picture of the two, but perhaps my friend can take one and send it to me (she is in Wisconsin where I'm sure she is getting lots of use out of them). I also finished another scarf and fingerless mitt pair for my ex-boyfriend, but just to be clear, I completed that at the end of August before he ended our relationship and out of the courtesy in my heart, I mailed him the present for Christmas anyway. I also made a pair of socks for a friend in Atlanta. They were knit i
